Are you planning on staying longer (before or after) in Morocco?
This gives us an idea who to expect when and how to distribute the rooms.

And other practical stuff

Below you can find information on getting to Essaouira and staying there.

Some general information:

  • IMPORTANT: You need a passport to enter Morocco, valid for at least six months beyond the duration of your stay.
  • Don’t forget travel insurance.
  • If you’re only staying for our wedding, you shouldn’t worry about other stuff too much. If you’re staying longer, feel free to check out our ‘Travel tips’ for extra info!

Flights – Getting to Essaouira

In general we suggest checking prices through aggregate search engines, such as Skyscanner, Momondo or Google. But beware: once you find an interesting flight, it’s best to book through the airline itself (and not one of the online ‘travel agencies’), as this will ensure swift follow up in case of problems.

You have several options to get to Essaouira:

  • Airport of Essaouira: The easiest route, there are direct flights with Ryanair from Brussels Charleroi to Essaouira, inbound on Wednesday and outbound on Sunday.
For those of you that live in Limburg or Antwerp: starting from 1/11/2023, there will also be direct Ryanair flights from Weeze/Düsseldorf (NRN) to Essaouira (Wednesday – Sunday).
!!! UPDATE 1/11/23: Ryanair flights are online! The return flight on Sunday to Charleroi is looking very expensive. Might be interesting to shuffle around your dates a bit.
  • Airport of Marrakech: From Brussels, you can find several airlines that offer flights to Marrakech. From Marrekech it’s a 2.5 hour drive to Essaouira. If you let us know you’re coming this way, we can arrange transport.
!!! UPDATE 1/11/23: Ryanair flights are online and very competitive!
  • Airport of Casablanca: As with Marrakech, there are several airlines offering flights. Although it’s a 4 hour drive to Essaouira, this option might be interesting because it’s easier to find cheaper direct flights, compared to Marrakech. Also interesting for the people that think about staying longer.

Accomodations in Essaouira

If you would like to book your own stay, through booking.com you can find ample choice for hotels and riads in and around Essaouira. We’ve personally checked and can vouch for the following:

Car Rental

In general, pay attention when you book a car rental online. If you read the Google reviews, plenty of local chapters of the big companies (Hertz, Europcar, Avis…) have some questionable tactics to make you pay extra (superfluous insurance, made up damages…). So always make sure to read the reviews (Google, Trust Pilot…) before you book!

That being said, it’s also possible to rent with a smaller local company. This way we found out about Medloc: www.medloc-maroc.com/en. They offer car rentals in all major cities (though not in Essaouira itself, it seems). We can vouch for their impeccable service (5/5 on Google with a thousand reviews!). Smaller cars start at around 30€/day (think Dacia Logan, nifty little car!).

If you’re self driving, be aware that traffic can be quite chaotic inside the big cities. Outside of these, it’s very comfortable. Road conditions are quite good in general, we were able to take our Logan up to 3000 meters last June:
